Environment for Visionaries

Since its beginning Windward has been a key driver in setting up infrastructure for the internet age. In 1979, a company called Proto Systems began developing circuit boards just a few miles from what is today the Windward Tech District. Around the same time miles of fiber were laid along the corridor from Atlanta up into Alpharetta.

The stage was set for leading internet and computer technology companies to set up shop in Alpharetta. The Windward Tech District became the location where many did indeed set up their business operations.

Early developers in the District saw the immense opportunity the area had for becoming one of the first truly integrated communities, where a plethora of business opportunities could be complimented by unique residential offerings, access to nature (including Lake Windward) and a variety of supporting retail and restaurants.

This thoughtful foresight and creative envisioning has remained a dominant attitude that has defined the Windward Tech District for the last several decades, attracting new innovators and cultivating a balanced lifestyle that has a global and timeless appeal.
